It is no coincidence that See Siang Wong exclusively plays works from Frederic Chopin on his new CD. “Chopin has been familiar to me since childhood; his music has accompanied me since then like a loyal friend.” It is little wonder that he feels so connected to this music. The juxtaposition of waltzes and nocturnes on the CD has also been chosen deliberately, because these two bodies of work show two distinct sides of Chopin's fabled piano magic. Public and private sounds, introverted and extroverted – such confrontations are like twin souls of a comprehensive whole, and it is no accident that See Siang Wong, familiar with Buddhist traditions, appreciates the interplay of yin and yang, one of the oldest and most fundamental Chinese philosophical concepts, and one that manifests throughout all facets of life and art.
