piano sonatas
Please join pianist See Siang Wong in Beethoven’s most beloved Piano Sonatas. Beethoven’s dramatic Pathétique Sonata is perhaps the earliest of his compositions to achieve widespread and enduring popularity. The famous Moonlight Sonata derives its title from an 1832 description by music critic Ludwig Rellstab, who compared it to moonlight shining upon Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. The Waldstein Sonata is a key work early in Beethoven’s “Heroic” decade (1803-1812) and sets the stage for piano compositions in the grand manner both in his later work and all future composers. The performance concludes with two small musical gems: the Andante Favori and old time favorite Für Elise.
